What Our Representatives Are Saying

My background isn’t typical. Even though I have four children, I don’t have much experience with schools. I homeschooled for 13 years. I did get familiar with looking through catalogs during that time. I have a degree in writing and work at a magazine part time. When a friend approached me about taking over her Delaney territory, I didn’t know anything about sales. I have never considered myself a salesperson. In fact, I hate throwing Tupperware or jewelry parties and asking friends to come over and buy stuff. I have jokingly said that I couldn’t sell a fur coat to an Eskimo. That said, I do love books. Libraries are one of my favorite places to be. And even though, I’m a fairly shy person at heart, meeting book type people is just plain fun. So, I said yes.

My approach to Delaney sales is based on people. I may spend more time than others in preliminary/get acquainted type meetings, but it seems to work for me. I pay attention not just to the customer’s needs, but also to the person who needs these books. I make notes on their personality, their family, things we have in common. When people know you care about them as an individual, not just a sale, they respond.
