Delaney Educational Enterprises supplies books for many different reading programs. Some of the more common leveling systems being used are: Accelerated Reader - AR is a computer program designed to move students forward in their independent reading. Students are tested for reading comprehension and placed into a reading level. Books are leveled and labeled accordingly so that students can choose books to read at their appropriate level. Delaney is pleased to offer AR Reading Practice Quizzes. Lexile (Reading Counts) - Reading Counts is a common metric (a Lexile measure) to assess both the level of the reader and the level of the text. The goal is to match students to appropriate text. Delaney offers FREE Reading Counts prep upon request when you place your order for your books! Reading Recovery - Reading Recovery levels are broken down into a gradient of 1-20. Text begins very simply with one to two words per page and increases in difficulty to entire stories on a page. Level 10 is equivalent to the traditional beginning first grade reading level and level 20 is equivalent to the beginning second grade book. Early Intervention - These levels mirror the Reading Recovery levels. They were developed because it takes up to three years to have a book leveled by Reading Recovery trained personnel. Early Intervention levels are determined by people who understand Reading Recovery levels and the fine text gradient. Guided Reading - This text gradient is comparable to Early Intervention at the lower levels, but continues through text appropriate for middle school students. |
